The famed Mousse de Saxe base has been, until now, long gone — although modernised bases have appeared in recent years as historic perfumery becomes popular once again. Fraterworks Saxon Moss is true to the original Mousse de Saxe, down to the special form of Isobutyl Quinoline we produce ourselves to match the isomeric ratio of the original (no longer on the market). Once again perfumers can indulge in this masterpiece.
Rich with naturals, including a megadose of Mysore sandalwood, this wonderful mossy leathery base can be felt at less than 1% of a fragrance yet it can still be used in large amounts as it was previously in such fragrances as Nuit de Noel by Caron (formula below).
Our Saxon Moss is made from the original formula with one exception: the replacement of Musk Xylene which is now prohibited.
Warning: This is a raw material for the manufacture of perfumes. Do not consume. Do not apply directly to skin. Keep out of reach of children.

General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

A classic base that evokes the essence of 1920s perfumery, when Mysore sandalwood was ubiquitously used. The combination of sandalwood and quinoline molecules creates a fantasy accord of dark green moss and leather undertones.
Mousse de Saxe is a great find. I have found the base of my Men’s fragrance. The scent is sexy, classic, timeless and modern. I made an accord using Mousse de Saxe and the scent lingers on the scent strip nearly two weeks later. I’m glad I learned about Fraterworks. Fast shipping to the UK and protective packaging. To notch.
Used it in my first masculine fragrance as the only wood/leather part of the perfume. Added a few ionones, an aromatic heart and some bergamot, and after 3-4 weeks of maceration you have a finished fragrance that oozes class.

Mr. Frater's restoration of the famed De Laire base is masterful. It is green, mossy, and leathery. It's a perfume all on its own. It was featured in many classics such as Habanita, Nuit de Noel (along with most all Caron perfumes pre-1990), Chanel Bois des Iles, Hermes Caleche to name a few. The original is still being produced by Symrise now but it's missing the je ne sais quoi from Jamie's version. If you're looking to reproduce or get inspired by this base, it's a great start. Get it. It's worth it.
