    This is the finest vanilla tincture on the market today. Every care and the characteristic Fraterworks attention to detail has been engaged at every step of the way. Our intensely rich, dark and luxurious tincture of vanilla is a unique way to add the full complexity of vanilla to your scent.

    We use specially harvested whole vanilla pods which are given extra drying time in the Madagascan sun to intensify their aroma for an especially dark and surprisingly powerful vanilla tincture. We use only the purest food grade alcohol made with remote New Zealand glacial water so nothing stands in the way of a perfect cold process vanilla extraction.

    Because our tincture is made at such a high concentration, the alcohol can absorb quite a lot of water naturally from the pods. As Steffen Arctander says: “Certain perfume houses still use the old fashioned “infusion” method of extraction. […] The resulting infusion may be filtered immediately or after cooling. […] It will become cloudy and show additional precipitate on standing.” 

    All fragrances created with naturals or tinctures must be chilled overnight after maceration (typically a period of one month) and fine filtered to remove any cloudiness that may remain.

    Use the tincture directly in your perfume formulas or pre-blend it with perfumer's alcohol for a natural vanilla touch impossible to obtain any other way.

    General Information

    Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

    All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    Good alternative

    I've purchased this twice and each time I'm getting larger volume, it gives a beautiful and airy vanilla absolute vibe, sweet and smokey, I use this to replace half of my ethanol in a complete formula. Very satisfied!

    Natural touch

    Got this to have a 100% natural vanilla and wasn't disappointed. Round and sweet, bring a touch of natural to vanillin and vanilla accords. Less animalic / smoky / fatty than the absolute. And noticeably less expensive!

    Vanilla Tincture 20% separates when added to (most) essential oils that I tested .However blended well with the addition of alcohol. I found the aroma pleasant but of weak strength compared to other same strength tinctures.

    Hi Beth, thanks for the feedback. I have just checked the tincture and it is crystal clear - in fact I personally chill filtered it with extremely fine filter paper myself. As Steffen Arctander says, vanilla pods contain a lot of water which is absorbed into the tincture. That can cause cloudiness which is normal and this is rectified with filtering (all commercial fragrances are filtered before sale).

    Would you mind emailing me with some more details on what you mixed with it so I can do further testing? We recommend that all perfumes should be chill filtered after the usual month or so of maceration as most fragrance materials require that (naturals especially, but even synthetics). However, because of this terrible inconvenience to you I have refunded the product in full.
