Fraterworks manufactures this superior tincture using completely cold alcohol and highest quality wild-harvested benzoin Siam gum. The drug (raw gum) is the highest grade and our tincturing process uses the finest odourless food grade alcohol only. Absolutely no synthetic plasticisers, denaturants or diluents are used, resulting in a totally natural product by ISO 9235 standards. This is the gold standard of benzoin extracts and every care has been taken to ensure consistent excellence in every drop.

In addition to being a perfumery material, Benzoin Siam Tincture was a starting material for Friar's Balsam, a medicinal compound invented in the 1760s by Dr Johua Ward who combined it with smaller amounts of styrax resin and the bitter aloe ferox (a plant related to aloe vera). Fraterworks' Benzoin Siam Tincture is not produced in a food safe or pharmaceutical environment and as such is not be taken internally. This is not a medicine and is not made according to the USP standards.

Combining this tincture in a ratio of 1:10 up to 1:50 with distilled water will give you Lac Virginis (virgin's milk), an olden days cosmetic to brighten a young lady's complexion. The tincture may louche upon blending with water.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 100%
    IFRA 49: 100%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

    Benzoin Tincture

This is slightly different from Benzoin Absolute - it's quite smoother and tends to dwell more on base notes, without the spicy intrusive top notes of the absolute.
