Geranium Bourbon or rose geranium is native to South Africa but it was transplanted to Réunion island (known as Île de Bourbon from 1665–1793) by the French colonists in the 1840s after natural disasters destroyed the coffee industry in 1806 and 1807. In time the importance of the Island in international trade fell and most geranium Bourbon is now produced on the neighbouring island of Madagascar, from whence this essential oil comes.

Our geranium Bourbon essential oil is, for all intents and purposes, the closest in scent you can find to the odour quality loved by the great perfumers of the 20th century who particularly enjoyed the balanced and easily managed green and floral scent. It is a key note in most of the earliest fougère fragrances.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 52%
    IFRA 49: 52%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

    A Rich Geranium

This is a very nice geranium - it's on par with the best I've found elsewhere. Would recommend.

    Nice quality

Immensely powerful and diffusive. I placed a few drops on a filter paper in my bathroom, and soon the room was infused with the delightful, warm, rosy and green-minty-woody fragrance of rose geranium - with an emmediate reminding of the renowned 'Maja' luxury soap. Try using this gem in the famous 'Sen-Sen' accord as described by Steffen Arctander: with patchouli, alpha-iso-methylionone etc. And a last word: this quality of geranium oil dries pleasantly out in a mild and fresh waxy note before it vanishes.

    I "get" Geranium now!

My only previous experience with Geranium was a cheap essential oil I had purchased from another perfume supplier (I believe it was Egyptian) and I strongly disliked it. I took a flier on this Bourbon-type oil and it is a lot smoother and easier to incorporate into a blend. Sometimes it's worth it to pay for better quality!
