Alpha-Pinene is the sharp blast of pine needles you get when you snap a fresh conifer branch — piercing, camphoraceous, and immediately resinous. It delivers extraordinary top-note diffusion, filling a room the moment you open the bottle. A warm turpentine undertone sits beneath the bracing, almost medicinal freshness.
Use Alpha-Pinene when you want the bracing, terpenic side of a fragrance front and centre — forest floor, mountain air, snapped pine branches. It gives coniferous accords their immediate blast of reality. Even a trace sharpens rosemary, sage, and juniper with an authenticity synthetic pine bases lack.
Blend Alpha-Pinene with camphene and limonene for a full turpentine reconstruction, or pair it with juniper berry and cedarwood for deep forest compositions. It sharpens aromatic fougères alongside lavender and rosemary. Use sparingly — its piercing top note dominates aggressively while present but fades fast.
Alpha-Pinene vs Beta-Pinene
Alpha and Beta-Pinene are closely related but smell and behave quite differently in a formula. Alpha is the sharper, more aggressive of the two — piercing pine-needle character with a camphoraceous edge, extremely volatile, and immediately impactful. Beta is softer, greener, and more woody-citrus, with a dry spicy-balsamic quality and none of Alpha's camphoraceous bite.
Alpha dominates in turpentine, rosemary, and sage; Beta is more prominent in lemon, lime, and nutmeg oils. In practice, Alpha provides the bracing blast that opens a coniferous accord, while Beta blends more seamlessly into citrus and woody heart notes. Use them together for a fully realised pine effect, or separately to steer toward the medicinal or the green-citrus end of the spectrum.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
