Beta-Pinene is the softer, greener side of pine — woody and citrus-tinged rather than sharp and camphoraceous. Where Alpha-Pinene hits with an aggressive needle-like blast, Beta is more diffusive and rounded. A dry, spicy quality, almost balsamic, ties it closer to lemon peel and nutmeg than turpentine.
Use Beta-Pinene for sophisticated citrus reconstructions, especially lemon and lime, where it adds a natural backbone without Alpha's medicinal punch. It brings a "snapped twig" greenness to floral and woody compositions that smells genuinely botanical. In spicy accords, its nutmeg-adjacent quality pairs naturally with clove and cardamom.
Blend Beta-Pinene with limonene for natural-smelling lemon and lime reconstructions — it's the backbone that makes citrus accords smell real rather than synthetic. Pair it with galbanum and green notes for a fresh, botanical greenness. In woody compositions, it adds a snapped-twig naturalness that grounds heavier base materials.
Beta-Pinene vs Alpha-Pinene
Beta and Alpha-Pinene are closely related but smell and behave quite differently in a formula. Beta is the softer, greener of the two — a dry, woody-citrus character with spicy-balsamic undertones and no camphoraceous bite. Alpha is sharper and more aggressive, with piercing pine-needle and turpentine qualities. Beta is prominent in lemon, lime, and nutmeg oils; Alpha dominates in turpentine, rosemary, and sage.
In practice, Beta blends more seamlessly into citrus and woody heart notes, while Alpha provides the bracing blast that opens a coniferous accord. Use them together for a fully realised pine effect, or separately to steer toward the green-citrus or medicinal end of the spectrum.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
