Tonka Torréfiée Esprit d'Odeur is a luxurious combination of roasted tonka beans with fifteen year aged small batch rum, distilled into a light and ethereal perfumery spirit.
With subtle nuances of cherry, bitter almonds and caramel, this is a truly unique and precious material.
First we roast fresh tonka beans which intensifies the ripe cherry and marzipan notes. These are then crushed and tinctured for a period of months in dark rum, triple aged for 15 years in oak casks. The final stage is to then distill the rich tincture resulting in a delicately scented colourless nearly pure alcohol. This can be used as a tincture, a perfumer's alcohol or the foundation of additional tinctures.
Tonka Torréfiée presents with a bouquet of sandalwood, freshly baked pastries, marzipan, black cherries, and the merest suggestion of musk.
To smell this infusion is to smell happiness.
IMPORTANT: this product must not be consumed. It is for perfume manufacture only.

Longevity: Lasts > 360 hours on a smelling strip.

General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

Esprit D'Odeur — The Spirit of Scent
Esprit D'Odeurs are special tinctures in which the alcohol is replaced in whole or in part by highest quality drinking spirits such as cognac, rum or whiskey. Some complex Esprit D'Odeurs involve enrichment with additional luxurious nuancers and further steps of distillation or co-distillation.
Esprit D'Odeur type tinctures were a common raw material in most French perfume houses during the late Victorian era and early 20th century where they were used to lend an inimitable and rich quality to fragrances. Indeed their use makes replicating historic fragrances very difficult for modern perfumers who no longer have access to what were typically captive products. We are thrilled to be returning these classical jewels to the artisanal market.
Esprit D'Odeurs are used like tinctures to add character, complexity and a je ne sais quoi to a perfume. They can replace some or all of the perfumer's alcohol in a formula for a fine fragrance with distinction.
