    This beautiful Fraterworks base represents fine black China tea of the variety used by Sir Joseph Banks who invented Earl Grey Tea (later named for Banks' friend the second Earl Grey, prime minister of England).

    It is a full bodied robust tea base built around many rich and luxurious naturals. It will impart a top to bottom tea note and can be used in very small amounts to overdose though we recommend something in the vicinity of 0.5 – 1%.

    Add Bergamot for a distinct Earl Grey note, or a touch of Fir Needle Oil and our signature rectified Birch Tar to mimic Lapsang Souchong tea.

    General Information

    Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

    All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    Realistic brewed black tea

    I purchased this on my quest to create the perfect black tea note. This is a recreation of brewed black tea, not dried tea leaves. This smells nearly identical to a vanilla black tea that I have. It's a very round scent, and it has this quality of sticking in the nose when you smell it. In comparison to robertet black tea, this is far more gourmand and lacks the subtle cocoa and dried tea elements that product has. It's worth adding to your toolkit if you're passionate about tea!

    Great perfume interpretation of black tea.

    So, I was hoping for a more natural smelling black tea, but I will say this works as a “perfumey” interpretation of the note. It can be overdosed, for sure, and that can make it seem much more soapy. I’m still a beginner but I mixed this with Raspberry Ripple (the black tea below 5%) and it turned out decently with a mellow dry down. If you want straight black tea you will have to get the natural version but keep in mind the IFRA usage allowance is low for perfumes.

    Not what I expected

    You have lovely descriptions for your materials but the soapiness of this black tea makes it unrecognizable against the smell of black tea. I had high hopes but I don’t think I will be using it in my formulations—I should have purchased a smaller amount for testing.

    Long Lasting Black Tea Base

    A great addition to my aromachem collection. Been tinkering with this for a few weeks now and am really enjoying it.
