REF: 413453Once upon a time, an attar was a co-distillation of precious botanical matter, traditionally done using two stills. Nowadays the term has broadened considerably to include blends of plant extracts and aroma chemicals diluted in sandalwood as a carrier oil. Cost and rarity make pure sandalwood difficult to justify, so alternatives are needed.
Fraterworks Attar Bases are designed to be used as ingredients in precious mukhallats (the Arabian term for a blend of naturals and aroma chemicals — in other words, a perfume base) and other fragrance forms. Each Attar Base has different nuances, but the core objective remains: compliance with IFRA and EU regulations at concentrations up to at least 80%.
Attar Base N.18 is a one-for-one drop-in replacement for Dioctyl Phthalate — a now-prohibited chemical formerly used in very large quantities as a direct replacer for sandalwood oil due to cost. For some time, DOP was the go-to carrier for attars and other blends, but with its banning, perfumers have had to look at alternatives such as DPG overdoses (note: in most cases these are being used instead of alcohol in non-alcohol perfumes — hence their use at up to 80% in some cases). However, DPG on its own is not the best carrier, as it lacks a silken hand-feel and cosmetic appeal.
Attar Base N.18 gives you that hand-feel and longevity on the skin, while also supporting your formula with a touch of natural antioxidant and an antibacterial blend to combat the negative effects of using a dipper which touches the skin and then goes back into the bottle of perfume.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
