Bitter orange oil is more complex and, in our opinion, more interesting than sweet orange oil. It is, however, quite restricted by IFRA with an allowance of up to 3% of your finished product.

Bitter orange (also known as bigarade or Seville orange) is the fruit from which the original Marmalade was made. The finest qualities come from Europe where adulteration is unlikely.

According to Steffan Arctander: "The odor is very peculiar, fresh and yet "bitter" in the sense of "dry", but with a rich and lasting, sweet undertone. There are notes which remind of bergamot, grapefruit and sweet orange, but overall, the odour is distinctly different from that of other citrus oils. It is a different ype of freshness, a peculiar floral undertone which occasionally shows indolic notes, and a comparatively good tenacity."

It is interesting to note that cold pressed citrus oils are not technically essential oils as they do not undergo distillation.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 3%
    IFRA 49: 3%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

Cold pressed makes a huge difference

Being a cold pressed oil as opposed to a steam distilled essential oil makes a huge difference. This is much richer and truer to life than any essential oil you're going to try. It's a perfect facsimile of the tearing the peel off a ripe orange. While it does have a slight color to it, it's far less discoloring than something like green mandarin. If used at the recommended max of 2.8%, the impact on the color of your finished fragrance should be negligible.

    Perfect natural citrus top note

I'd always wanted to smell bitter orange to compare it to sweet orange and although very similar, bitter orange has a slight grapefruit scent beneath the initial strong orange that I can smell. This is a beautiful natural top note that I can't wait to play with!

    Juicy!

This is easily some of the best bitter orange oil I’ve smelt, it’s incredible juicy, it feels like I’ve just rubbed an orange peel all over myself!
