Calamus root essential oil, also known as "Sweet Flag",  is a pale yellow liquid displaying a smooth, warm,  woody-earthy-spicy bouquet with a milky, sweet undertone of very good tenacity. You have never smelled anything quite like this lovely rare oil.

Our calamus oil is wonderful for adding complex and interesting notes to a scent. It's gentle spice is vaguely reminiscent of the scent of cinnamon bark floating on the air while its earthy tones are well rounded and subtle.

Calamus oil contains around 70% asarones which are restricted by IFRA in natural oils to 0.01% of a finished product. Despite the restrictions this is still a wonderful material to have in the perfumer's palette and is most certainly still useable in commercial scents.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 0.0071%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    Sacred Lake

Calamus oil a very unique extract. Warm, spicy at the same time cool and freshwater aquatic. Hard to place, but very interesting and addictive. A bit swampy which at first can seem a bit challenging but which actually contributes to the "naturalness" of the oil. Smelling this, I was immediately taken back to times I have been foraging fresh Calamus rhizomes around a nearby lake. Great offering! This oil seems to become rarer and rarer to find.
