More commonly known just as Cetone Alpha, this is the perfected methyl ionone surpassing even Iralia® in quality (and, notably, in price). It first emerged in the mid 1920s as a key material in the Cetonia and Amarante bases of Marius Reboul (1873-1952).
Cetone Alpha quickly became the go-to methyl ionone in Givaudan's internal product range, and, as it became easier to produce in larger volumes, it eventually hit the market as a non-captive material.
Compared to Givaudan's Isoraldeine 95 and Iralia (Firmenich's top product from this family with strong powdery nuances), Cetone Alpha is supremely floral. Used below 5% of a formula Cetone Alpha has an astonishingly beautiful and radiant floralising effect, while higher amounts add a rich iris and violet character.
Iralia typifies the early 20th century era of rich powdery fragrances (exemplified by Coty and Guerlain). Its first outing, and perhaps still its finest, was as a 25% overdose in L'Origan (1908) by Coty where it coupled with Dianthine, the famed De Laire carnation base.
On the other hand, Cetone Alpha launched the floral and radiant era beginning in the 1930s with Chanel's aldehydic Ivoire (1932) with its Florentine iris and Parma violet heart. Cetone Alpha is to the methyl ionones what Paradisone® is to the methyl jasmonates.
Some other members of the family that we sell are Methyl Ionone Gamma Coeur and Methyl Ionone Alpha Extra. And while you wait a couple of days for your latest Fraterworks order to arrive in the post, you may like to read Understanding Ionones.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
