Mate (pronounced MAH-tay) absolute opens with the unmistakable warmth of steeped green tea — not bright or grassy but deep, dried, and slightly roasted. Hay and herbaceous facets emerge quickly, lending a sun-baked quality. Beneath it all sits a tobacco-leaf dryness that anchors everything to the base.
This is the material when you need a convincing tea accord built on a natural foundation. It slots into fougères alongside lavender and oakmoss, adding an intellectual herbal dimension that synthetics struggle to replicate. In tobacco compositions it provides the leafy dryness of cured leaves without resorting to isolated pyrazines or coumarin alone. The phenolic undertow gives it backbone in chypres and mossy structures.
Use mate to ground bright bergamot openings or to add bookish complexity to vetiver bases. It pairs exceptionally well with osmanthus, guaiacwood, chamomile, and hay absolute. At 40% in TEC this LMR material is ready to use — add it directly to your formula without further dilution. A touch of warmth may be needed to slacken the liquid in cooler climes.
Mate has been used to great effect in modern scents such as Tempo (2018) by Olivier Pescheux for Diptyque, Louis Vuitton's Cactus Garden (2019) byJacques Cavallier Belletrud, Xerjoff's Torino22 (2022) and the luxurious Matsukita (2021) by Clive Christian.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
