Angelica glauca oil takes the familiar angelica character and pushes it somewhere darker and wilder. The earthy, rooty depth is far more pronounced, with an ancient, almost subterranean quality. Subtle celery-lovage sweetness emerges alongside warm spice, but the dominant impression is brooding, untouched earth.
This oil brings a dark, almost archaeological earthiness to orientals and chypres. Pair it with oakmoss and patchouli for a damp, forested accord, or blend it into your amber bases where its ancient rootiness adds extraordinary dimension. Its fixative power is remarkable.
Use angelica glauca to ground floral compositions with earthy darkness. A trace transforms rose accords into something enigmatic and deep. It fills a similar role to lovage and costus root but with a quality all its own — brooding, ancient, and endlessly tenacious on the blotter.
If you know Angelica archangelica root oil — musky, peppery, amber-like — you will recognise glauca as family, but a wilder branch. The earthy depth is far more pronounced, the musk gives way to something darker and more ancient, and the tenacity is even greater. Fraterworks carries both, and they complement each other beautifully.
Visual Differences
Angelica glauca and Angelica archangelica are easily distinguished in the field. The European species, A. archangelica, is the larger and bolder of the two — a tall, robust biennial reaching up to 2.5 metres, with bright yellow-green leaves, thick fleshy stems, and large globular umbels of greenish-white flowers. A. glauca, the Himalayan species, is a more refined perennial growing to around 1–2 metres, and takes its name from the distinctive bluish-grey, waxy bloom on the undersides of its broader, oval leaflets — a feature entirely absent in its European cousin. Its flowers also set it apart, ranging from white through yellow to purple, whereas A. archangelica flowers are consistently greenish-white to pale yellow. In short, if A. archangelica is the big, bright, architectural herb of European gardens, A. glauca is its cooler-toned, more compact Himalayan counterpart.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
