Baume Ambré Customer
Baume Ambré is a co-distillation — benzoin resin distilled directly onto gurjun balsam, producing aromatic compounds that neither material creates alone. This is not a blend. When two botanicals are distilled together, heat and steam generate new molecules at the interface, yielding a material with qualities impossible to achieve by simply mixing the finished oils. The result here is benzoin transformed: still sweet, still vanillic, but carrying the memory of hot stone and burning paper.
The classic benzoin sweetness is immediately recognisable, but the gurjun co-distillation pushes it somewhere strange and nostalgic. A faint plastic edge adds tension to the sweetness. As the top notes vaporise, a cinnamic warmth emerges underneath — tying Baume Ambré back to the ancient balsamic family while keeping it unpredictable. The smoke quality is not birch or cade but papier d'Arménie: delicate, sweet, devotional.
Use it as a base anchor in orientals where standard benzoin feels too simple. It bridges the gap between clean vanillic sweetness and the darker, more complex resinous territory that modern niche compositions demand. Layer it beneath florals to give them warmth without heaviness.
Note that in colder climes, Baume Ambré may have some separation. It is simply the heavier benzoic acid from the benzoin fraction. Gentle warmth will homogenise the material.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
