In citrus blends it adds a leafy depth that stops the top note feeling purely chemical. Try it in plum and tropical fruit accords where its sweet ripeness reads as authentically juicy.
Work at low doses—under one percent is usually plenty, as it is a powerful diffuser that easily overwhelms subtler notes.
Isobutyrate vs Butyrate
Cis-3-hexenyl butyrate (CAS 16491-36-4) shares the same green-fruity family but leans in a different direction. The butyrate has a noticeable buttery, winey-brandy character beneath its green notes, almost like green Sweets with a boozy twist. This isobutyrate is cleaner, sweeter, and more purely fruity—apple-pear rather than apple-brandy. The butyrate is also somewhat milder and less diffusive. Choose the isobutyrate when you want crisp, clean fruit; choose the butyrate when you want richer, butterier depth.
