Dihydroanethole is anethole's softer sibling. The sharp crystalline bite that makes pure anethole so assertive has been smoothed away. What remains is a rounder anise character: warm black liquorice, sweet fennel, a hint of sassafras root. It smells like the memory of anise rather than anise itself.
That softness is the reason to stock it alongside anethole. Where anethole dominates and announces itself, dihydroanethole blends. It slides into oriental bases and fougères without elbowing other materials aside. Use it beneath lavender and coumarin in a fougère for herbaceous sweetness that reads as vintage and complex. In orientals, it provides the same sweet-spicy warmth that absinthe brings to a classic Guerlain structure.
It is also more stable than anethole in certain formulation conditions — less prone to oxidation. If you need anise character in a product with a long shelf life, dihydroanethole is the safer choice. It works well with star anise oil, tarragon, basil, and coumarin.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
