Source: Fraterworks® The invisible waxy skeleton of great iris. Soapy violet realism no ionone gives alone. Fatty-floral body that smells like money.

    Aroma Chemicals

    CAS: 124-06-1 Classification: Top Note[i]

This is a material you smell through rather than at. A faint waxy sweetness, violet-tinged and gently soapy, with just enough fruity warmth to distinguish it from plain wax. The odour sits right at the threshold of perception — quiet, smooth, and lipid-rich.

That near-silence is the point. Add ethyl myristate to violet and iris accords and the ionones suddenly smell rounder, more expensive, more like actual flower petals. It provides the fatty backbone that separates a flat violet note from one with three-dimensional depth. Think of it as the waxy residue left on your fingers after handling real orris butter.

Try it at trace levels alongside alpha-isomethyl ionone and methylionones for convincing violet-iris constructions. It brings soapy body to tuberose and mimosa bases without introducing any unwanted heaviness. Found naturally in osmanthus, grape, tea, and hawthorn, ethyl myristate earns its place as a quiet workhorse — the material nobody notices until you take it out.

    Ethyl vs Methyl Myristate

Don't confuse these — they smell different. Methyl myristate (CAS 124-10-7) leans into orris butter territory: faintly honeyed, waxy-floral, the backbone of iris accords. Ethyl myristate is soapier, more violet, with a creamy-fruity edge the methyl ester lacks. Choose methyl for orris. Choose ethyl for violet and powdery-floral work.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards
