Pure classical guaiac wood (pronounced “gwy-ack”) essential oil is getting more difficult to obtain these days and recently Robertet has discontinued their rectified or so-called "heart" fraction which, while beautiful, lacked the entire spectrum of the wood that was loved by the great perfumers of days gone by.

We are offering here the finest single origin (Paraguay) true guaiac wood in all its glory, completely unchanged by post-processing. Upon smelling this wood for the first time you may be surprised just how rich and luxurious it is. If you only know guaiac essential oil in its fractionated form, you are in for a real treat.

Guaiac is extracted from the exotic hardwood tree guaiacum sanctum which is covered with the most beautiful purple flowers. The oil is slightly smoky and meaty (and less plasticky compared to the Robertet heart product) but contrasted against many blended and multi-origin types, it is vastly superior.

Guaiac, in addition to its smoky and woody scent also has facets of spice and tea rose. It is a very versatile natural and is indispensable when making an Oud accord.

This product is solid in pure form and needs heating to liquify. For convenience we also sell it at 50% in natural odourless triethyl citrate to render it easier to use.

Pure Guaiac Wood Oil is a CITES appendix II product. In most countries this can be lawfully traded without extra paperwork if purchased for personal use. We recommend checking in advance with your own regulatory bodies.

If you are purchasing pure Guaiac Wood Oil for commercial reasons you may need a CITES re-export or origin certificate to accompany your purchase. Again, you should check with your national authorities. We charge $60 USD for this certificate and it takes approximately ten days for us to apply and provide it. Simply contact us for help. We will endeavour to make the process as seamless and speedy as possible.

Diluted Guaiac Wood Oil is deemed a “finished product” so no additional paperwork is necessary.

    Origin: Paraguay
    Variety: Guaiacum sanctum (CITES)
    Method: Steam distillation

    Appearance: Thick yellow resin
Longevity: Lasts > 400 hours on a smelling strip

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
