Mitti attar is the distillation of earth itself — that is not a metaphor. In Kannauj, India's perfume capital, clay from dried lakebeds is shaped into crude vessels, half-baked in small kilns, then distilled into sandalwood oil. The result captures something you already know: petrichor, the intoxicating smell of rain on dry ground. Indian perfumers have been bottling this scent for centuries. For all intents and purposes, this as close as you'll get to a natural geosmin.
The opening is cool and mineral — baked clay, wet stone, a faint electric charge. There is nothing floral about it. A quiet, bread-like sweetness emerges as the sandalwood base rises, and the mineral edge softens over several hours into something serene and meditative. Mitti attar does not project aggressively. It radiates from the skin, intimate and contemplative.
Use mitti attar to ground florals or add realism to green compositions. With vetiver it creates deep forest dampness; with rose, a garden-after-rain effect. It layers well with patchouli and oakmoss for a complete forest-floor accord. Dose carefully — too much flattens a composition into mud rather than enriching it with earth.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
