If you have been searching for the holy grail of tonka, you have found it. Intensely dark, warm, spicy and sweet, this absolute is the profound expression of the full aroma of the Brazilian beans. In this incredibly complex scent is the gourman odour of delicious French patiserie, the vanilla sweetness of puddings, and a warm fond of subtle spices centered around a fine cinnamon note.
Diluted to 30% in the finest food grade ethanol distilled from the icy pure glacial waters from the southern Alps of New Zealand, this is the easiest way to incorporate an otherwise difficult material into your fragrances. Despite being diluted, this material packs a serious punch.
In describing tonka absolute, Arctander says: ‘Tonka absolute is a semi solid or crystalline mass of pale amber or pale brownish-yellow color Its odor is very rich, sweet and warm, distinctly coumarinic-herbaceous, with a prune-like, or caramelic-sweet undertone. The odor description “tobacco-like” is somewhat confusing since Tonka tincture has been used quite extensively in the flavoring of cured tobacco leaves. The absolute consists of 20-45% coumarin, but the effect of a true Tonka absolute goes far beyond that of the coumarin contained in the absolute.
Tonka is a fixative and non-floral sweetener which introduces warm notes in chypres, fougères, new mown hay bases, lavender bouquets, Oriental bases, etc. It blends well with: Lavender, lavandin, clary sage, bergamot, oakmoss.’

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
