If you have been searching for the holy grail of tonka, you have found it. Intensely edible, warm, spicy and sweet, this absolute is the profound expression of the full aroma of the beans. In this incredibly complex scent is the gourmand odour of delicious French patisserie, the vanilla sweetness of puddings, and a warm fond of subtle spices centred around a delicate cinnamon note.

We offer this incredible product from V. MANE Fils at 10% dilution in pure and natural Triethyl Citrate (an odourless isolate from citrus) or pure. In pure form tonka bean is a solid paste.

In describing tonka absolute, Arctander says: ‘Tonka absolute is a semi solid or crystalline mass of pale amber or pale brownish-yellow color Its odor is very rich, sweet and warm, distinctly coumarinic / herbaceous, with a prune-like, or caramelic-sweet undertone. The odor description “tobacco-like” is somewhat confusing since Tonka tincture has been used quite extensively in the flavoring of cured tobacco leaves. The absolute consists of 20-45% coumarin, but the effect of a true Tonka absolute goes far beyond that of the coumarin contained in the absolute.

Tonka is a fixative and non-floral sweetener which introduces warm notes in chypres, fougères, new mown hay bases, lavender bouquets, Oriental bases, etc. It blends well with: Lavender, lavandin, clary sage, bergamot, oakmoss.’

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 2%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

    Warm, vanilla, caramel Tonka Bean

One of my fav ingredients and such a delight to work with. Very rich, warm vanilla, amber, with hints of underlying caramel. Best that I’ve tried so far. For me, Tonka Bean invokes good feelings and all sorts of good past memories. The more I use it in a formula, the more I realize I need to learn about TB’s history and uses in perfumery. There’s so much to an ingredient than the description. Will use this in an Oriental and soon in a fougère fragrance.

    Unparalleled Beauty

This Tonka absolute compared to the other Tonka absolutes I've sampled is what the Oakmoss Green Absolute (found on this site) is to regular oakmoss absolutes. Simply in a class of its own. Easily the most edible and gourmand material I've sampled. Very warm and rich. I've found coumarin to be a very dominant note in most tonka materials, but that's not the case with this tonka absolute. It stays true to its character and maintains its fullness throughout. 11/10 material that's worth having.
