    Solvents & Diluents

    CAS: 110-27-0 Classification: Top Note[i]

Isopropyl myristate brings virtually no odour contribution to your compositions, functioning purely as a technical perfumery material. This clear, mobile liquid dissolves lipophilic fragrance materials effortlessly while maintaining complete transparency to the nose. Its exceptional spreading properties ensure rapid absorption without the sticky residue common to other solvents.

You'll find IPM excels in oil-based fine fragrances, beard oils, and solid perfumes where alcohol cannot be used. It enhances fragrance uptake into skin whilst paradoxically increasing perceived intensity through controlled dilution—a synergistic effect unique among perfumery solvents. Unlike DPG's tendency towards stickiness or TEC's hydrophilic nature, IPM maintains a dry, elegant feel throughout wear.

Use IPM at up to 85% in perfume oils for optimal fluidity and projection. Combine with crystals and resinoids only after pre-dissolving them in compatible materials. In reed diffusers, balance with alcohol to control evaporation rate and throw.

The abbreviation "MIP", derived from the French name "Myristate d'Isopropyle," is commonly used in French perfumery circles, particularly in Grasse. Both IPM (English) and MIP (French) refer to the identical compound—the ester of isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 100%
    IFRA 49: 100%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...
