Phenyl propyl cinnamate smells of soft roses wrapped in warm balsam, with a delicate apricot sweetness underneath. It is mild at first impression but builds in richness over time. This is one of those materials that defines the character of classic oriental perfumery.
It occurs naturally in Peru balsam, storax, and benzoin — the great balsamic resins — and carries their warm, enveloping quality in a pure, controllable form. Use it as a fixative in oriental and rose bases, where it adds tenacity and a sweet, rosy depth that lasts over 400 hours on a blotter.
Pair it with ionones and methyl ionones for rich floral compositions, with benzoin and labdanum for full oriental warmth, or with mimosa absolute for a sweet, powdery, golden effect. Work from dilution — a small amount transforms a formula's base without announcing its presence.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
