Ambrarome (also known as Ambrarome Absolute) is one of the oldest bases still made and sold by the same company that created it (Synarome). It was created in 1926 by Hubert Fraysse (co-founder of the company with his brother George) and was key to Arpège, created his brother André Fraysse who was the chief perfumer of Lanvin.

Ambrarome is an intensely animalic base with a strong character of ambergris, noble labdanum fractions and aspects of leather. In fact, it was the first speciality product designed to replicate the then-already expensive ambergris. It was followed later by specialities from competing companies such as Grisambrol and Grisambrene by Firmenich.

François Coty loved Ambrarome so much that upon smelling it for the first time that he reformulated his great Chypre to include it (and at the same time removed Musk Ambrette and increased the Musk Ketone).

Due to the thickness and odour strength of this material we are offering it at 50% diluted in DEP as well as pure.

Fraterworks® is strictly a reseller of this product and is neither an agent nor official distributor for Synarome.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: Coming Soon
    IFRA 49: 53%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

    Ambrarome

It is a synthetic fragrance with a powerful amber note, especially used in amber and chypre type perfumes, it has a warm, animalic and leathery smell. I like the manimalic drydown.

    Miracle Ingredient

I had mixed up the demo formulas for Chypre, Tabac Blond, Femme, and Rallet no.1 from Fraterworks months ago without ambrarome so I was able to really notice the impact this ingredient has!
Smelling it at 50% concentration it is an addictive animalic, resinous, sweet leather scent. Adding small amounts to the 4 formulas brought them into technicolor. Ambrarome creates absolute magic; enhancing the other notes, similar but more intensely than civet or ambergris. Very grateful to be able to use this historic base.

    Amazing !

I am always puzzled when I smell older perfumes from the 50’s and 60’s that are found abandoned and neglected by sellers in antique malls and thrift stores. Some of them are quite strong and distinct. When I first smelled Ambrarome I thought maybe this is one of the ingredients. I have used it in in a base accord with some coumarin and other hard hitters, then I added 0.5 percent of Ambrarome and it came alive. I love love love this. Thank you Fraterworks for making my formulas come alive.
