Synonyms: Lie de Vin, Green Vitis Vinifera Oil Classification: Base Note[i]
Green Cognac Oil opens with a distinctly panary note with a recognisable dry-winey character—tart, herbaceous, and immediately evocative of crisp white wine. Green apple facets dominate the top, while fatty-oily undertones add naturalistic depth. The herbaceous-grassy dryness recalls late summer hayfields, and the overall effect is of sparkling, boozy freshness that transforms any composition it touches. The initial baked-bread note makes this very an excellent oil to temper the saccharine intensity of sweeter gourmands.
This essential oil comes from wine lees—the yeasty sediment left at the bottom of oak barrels after Cognac fermentation. Copper still distillation creates the distinctive emerald-green colour through oxidation, a traditional French method now increasingly rare. The result is an intensely diffusive oil with remarkable 200-hour substantivity. Work with it heavily diluted (5–10%) to tame its raw power before blending.
Use Cognac Oil Green in trace amounts—one or two drops can lift an entire composition. It excels in colognes, fougères, and aftershave fragrances where its sparkling freshness adds sophistication. Blend with bergamot, lavender, clary sage, and ylang-ylang for classic effects. Pair with methyl anthranilate for authentic grape-wine accords or the rarer allyl anthranilate if you seek more power. The tart green apple character makes it valuable in fruit compositions seeking naturalistic depth rather than synthetic sweetness.
Cognac Oil Green vs Cognac Oil White
These two Cognac oils share the same botanical source (Vitis vinifera lees) but differ meaningfully in character. Green Cognac, distilled in traditional copper stills, is bolder, more boozy, with pronounced herbaceous-grassy notes, green apple tartness, and an almost harsh bready intensity that demands careful dosing.
White Cognac, distilled in stainless steel, is smoother and more refined—less boozy, with rounder fruity-floral qualities and a champagne-like elegance that's easier to blend.
Use Green Cognac when you want powerful boozy lift in heavier compositions, forest themes, or masculine fougères; reach for White Cognac when you need delicate fruity-floral effects in oriental and feminine compositions. Both require trace amounts—their intensity easily overwhelms at higher concentrations.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
