Costus root is one of those strange odours from history. Upon first smelling it, people often recall the scent of wild goats and wet dog hair but as every perfumer knows, it is often the "ugly" smells that add the final touch of beauty to a scent. Costus root was used in very high doses in fragrances such as My Sin by the mysterious Madame Zed for Jeanne Lanvin and at 0.6% in the form of pure essential oil in the original Miss Dior by Jean Carles.
Unfortunately regulations have now excluded costus and all its extracts from fragrances, but we offer it for those who wish to faithfully recreate historic masterpieces and for the lucky few who live in nations in which this precious material is not restricted.
This Fraterworks tincture is made according to the oldest traditions of French infusion manufacture with purest glacial food grade alcohol. It makes for a wonderful addition to fragrances already taking advantage of costus root oil.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
