There’s a lactonic smoothness here that feels like actual petals — dense and voluptuous rather than green or airy. A subtle herbaceous note, almost celery-like, sits quietly underneath, adding just enough complexity to keep it interesting.
Use Jessemal where you want body. It is the creamy end of this family with only a trace of the green, so it fills out a jasmine, tuberose or white-floral heart without bringing mushroom or earth with it. If a white floral smells thin and sketched rather than fleshy, this is the material that gives it weight.
Layer it under indole for animalic depth, or beside Hedione and benzyl acetate for a fuller, more rounded jasmine heart. Its exceptional stability means the jasmine character holds true from application through to dry-down.
Understanding the Jasmine Pyrans
Jessemal is one of a small family of jasmine materials that are all the same molecule in two forms. One form is green, herbaceous and mushroomy, with a tea note. The other is rich, creamy and petal-like, and lasts longer. Nobody sells either form on its own: every product in the family is a mix of the two, and the proportion is what you are buying.
Jessemal (IFF, CAS 38285-49-3) is mostly the creamy form — the richest, most petal-like and longest-lasting of the group.
Jasmal (IFF, CAS 18871-14-2) is mostly the green form: herbaceous, with pronounced tea and mushroom notes and an oily, plant-like feel.
Jasmonyl (Givaudan, CAS 18871-14-2 and 63270-14-4) is Givaudan’s own balance of the two — Jessemal’s creamy petal with Jasmal’s green-mushroom earthiness in one bottle.
Jasmopyrane Forte (Givaudan, CAS 18871-14-2) is Givaudan’s cheaper, rougher cut of the green form: greener and more mushroomy than Jasmal, and slightly more tenacious.
Substituting Jessemal with Jasmal or Jasmopyrane Forte will push your formula greener and more mushroomy, losing the creamy lactonic body. Jasmonyl gets you closer, since it carries the creamy form, but will also bring in the earthier green character.
Jessemal® shows balanced behaviour with moderate strength (5/10) and proportional impact in blends (4/10). Versatile and predictable to work with.

General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
