Synonyms: Phenylmethanol Classification: Heart Note[i]
Benzyl alcohol is not a star note but a quiet workhorse. It polishes florals, dissolves tough ingredients, and lends gentle fixative power. Keep it fresh, dose with restraint, and it will make your formulas feel more professional. Even traces (under 0.5%) can soften and naturalise floral bases built around harsh aroma chemicals like Benzyl Acetate.
Due to its natural occurrence in many white florals and its blending properties, Benzyl Alcohol is frequently employed in the construction or support of accords such as Jasmine, Lilac, Gardenia, Tuberose, Heliotrope, Muguet (Lily of the Valley), Rose, Orange Blossom, and Ylang-Ylang. It is often found in formulations alongside materials like Benzyl Acetate, Benzyl Salicylate, Lindenol (terpineol), Hydroxycitronellal, Lilial and Lyral and Methyl Anthranilate.
The odour of benzyl alcohol ranges from extremely faint, to mildly almond-like. The almond facet comes not from the material itself but degradation into benzaldehyde which is very common. Once you receive your benzyl alcohol you should keep it well sealed and in a cool dark place to maintain its freshness.
Benzyl Alcohol presents a delicate scent when evaluated directly (3/10 strength), yet offers a surprisingly moderate presence in blends (4/10 impact).

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
