Nerolidol opens with an understated elegance—a whisper rather than a shout. This sesquiterpene alcohol presents faint woody-floral notes that seem to hover just at the edge of perception, like "an aura of light or a cool breeze." The initial impression is deceptively mild: soft rose petals, fresh apple skin, and delicate muguet float above a woody base. Yet this subtle character masks exceptional staying power—what starts as barely perceptible evolves into a persistent presence that can last over 280 hours on a blotter, quietly supporting and enhancing everything around it.
Deploy Nerolidol at 0.5-3% when you need sophisticated structural support without obvious character modification. Its true genius lies in functional excellence: as a blender, it seamlessly links disparate notes, smoothing harsh transitions between top and base; as a fixative, it anchors volatile materials while adding its own substantive trace. Use it to build delicate florals like muguet, honeysuckle, and peony where heavy fixatives would overwhelm. In woody-vanillic accords, it provides an "airy side" that prevents density. Its ability to enhance skin penetration makes it valuable in functional fragrances.
Despite the similar names, Nerolidol and Nerol are fundamentally different materials with distinct roles in perfumery. The key difference lies in their molecular structure: Nerol is a C10 monoterpene alcohol (rose-fresh, citrusy, lighter), while Nerolidol is a C15 sesquiterpene alcohol (woody-floral, tenacious, heavier). Nerol provides bright, fresh rose with seashore wetness and moderate tenacity; Nerolidol offers subtle woody-floral depth with exceptional longevity. Nerol functions as a vibrant top-to-middle note in rose and citrus accords; Nerolidol serves as an invisible base note, fixative, and blender. The extra isoprene unit in Nerolidol's structure dramatically reduces volatility, transforming a fresh floral material into a sophisticated structural element. Nerolidol has a moderate odour presence (4/10 strength) when evaluated directly, but shows a restrained impact in blends (3/10). Can be used generously without dominating.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
