Manufacturer: Wild harvest oil, collected by hand in Bangladesh. Star of Mizensir Golden Oud and others. Fully CITES certified for sustainable trade.

Essential Oils | Ouds & Attars

    CAS: 94350-09-1
    Synonyms: Oud Assam
Variety: Aquilaria Malaccensis Classification: Base Note[i]

East truly does meet West in this most famous of all wild harvested oud oils. Oud Assafi is the result of a collaboration of Bangladeshi master distillers Jalali Agarwood and Swiss fragrance giant Firmenich.

Oud Assafi is intensely animalic and woody with a sweet undertone. It is perceptible in traces (which is fortunate given its high price).

For a surprising good (and very cost-effective) extender to this treasured essential oil, blend it with a generous amount of Laine de Mouton absolute. The two are extremely synergistic and the combination allows a perfumer to mimic the effect of an Oud Assafi overdose.

Owing to the intensity of this pure oil and the extremely high price, we are also offering it diluted to 1%, 5% and 10% in natural triethyl citrate, a marvellous odourless diluent produced from citrus.

If you are purchasing for trade you may need a CITES export certificate (check your nation's regulations). We can assist you with that process which is relatively easy. Contact us for more details and costings.

Also, for those who wish to wear this oud directly as a finished product, we are offering 1/4 Tola, 1/2 Tola and 1 Tola options. The tola options ship in luxury heavy weight crystal attar bottles in velvet bags, perfect for gifts.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 2.08%
    IFRA 49: Coming Soon

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

Review by a consumer of oud oils

As one reviewer has said, this is a beautiful and potent oud, and you need only a small amount. (In the oud-head world, agarwood refers to the resinous bark/wood of the aloes tree burned/smoldered as incense, and oud refers to the oil obtained from the distillation of the infected wood.) You need only use a little in your compositions. I purchased the 10% diluted version, and it was stronger and more persistent than some of the real ouds I have bought for personal use. If you can, splurge on this. It has an animalic note for sure, and will work well with rose, jasmine, osmanthus, more florals, and woods.

    Only traces needed

I have only one thing to say: Its an embodiment of truth, as it might be insupportable as the truth is for many. But that’s what my nephew expected from this oil. It’s not advisable to let it be alone, alone is mould scent. But with some accompany of labdanum and flowers emerges discreetly and vanishes a slight metalic, old book scent, tru class and art of nature, tempered oud. Beautifully if captivated for longer. But who has money for that ? XD

    Barnyard Oud

This is the first natural oud I've come across that I can readily categorize as "barnyard." Goes to show what a spectrum of ouds are out there. Even a homeopathic amount of Oud Assafi is effective in an oud accord or to add nuance to base notes.

    Suprisingly cozy and soft

I smelled several oud perfumes and some oud bases and accords and wasn't really getting what oud is about, what makes it recognisable as oud. Sometimes it's leather (like the Pretty Oud base), sometimes it's smoky, sometimes it's medicinal, sometimes Cypriol, sometimes woody ambers. So I got this to get a better understanding.
To my surprise, one material this is most similar to is Fleur de Cuir (and osmanthus absolute too). It doesn't have the floralcy but the leathery barnyard animalic note is almost identical. There is even a hint of fruitiness (or my mind plays tricks on me).
There is no dry woody harshness that you get from woody ambers. It is much softer and nostalgically cosy and warm, like a warm afternoon in the countryside near a barn. Animalic, yes, but a weird mix of pleasant and unpleasant that is almost addictive. To my nose, the woody backbone only shows after some time and stays in the background.
I tried to wear it on its own because I felt like I could like it that way but it proved to be too much. It needs to be mixed with other things. I bet it's going to be glorious in blends.
