Fleurs Deluxe № 3 is the floral core of the great Iris Gris (1946) by Vincent Roubert for Jacques Fath. Containing every orris product available in combination with the great Persicol base and luxurious absolutes of French rose de Mai, jasmine, tuberose and more. It is easy to understand why this fragrance is considered by many to be the greatest perfume ever made.

Iris Gris is comprised of 65% of Fleurs Deluxe № 3 — unchanged and unadapted; this is the pure heart of the fragrance. Compound the demonstration formula below for an exact replica of the original Iris Gris or use Fleurs Deluxe № 3 as the starting point for your own modern luxurious orris based fragrance.

The original Iris Gris was a multifloral perfume of carnation, iris, violet, rose, jasmine, tuberose, woods and musks (including a hefty dose of civet absolute!). This was all wrapped in a delightful sweet peach note from Firmenich's famous Persicol base.

We also have Fleurs Deluxe № 1 if you are looking for a rich French rose and jasmine fragrance in the style of Patou's Joy.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    IFRA 51: 9.78%
    IFRA 49: 18.05%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

    Incredibly rich an floral composition.

Before I used it for the Iris Gris formula this Fleur Deluxe No 3 already smelled fantastic.. a perfume on its own, This is a high quality ingredient that can transform a formula in a superb perfume if you like classic perfumary!

    Powdery Sweet and Floral

I was very keen to smell this material based on the description, I am very fond of orris and orris like materials. This definitely puts one in mind of orris but this is much more floral and far less "green" than orris butter. It has a note of the woodiness but it doesn't stick out the way it can in real orris.

As a material on it's own it this could definitely be a workhorse. It lasts a very long time. Very powdery and it has, to my nose, an animalic muskiness that underpins it with only a subtle hint of "skankiness" around the edges.

I do find the overall scent to be a little "old fashioned" but it is a classic base so some of that datedness is to be expected. Nonetheless after living with this for a while I have had more then a few ideas on how to formulate with this.

Many thanks to Jamie Frater for his work bringing these classic materials to light
