Liquids up to 5g are shipped in amber bottles with high quality tamper-evident seals. All other sizes ship in the highest quality industry-standard aluminum bottles from Tournaire in France.

Powders are shipped in pharmaceutical grade HDPE plastic pots and pastes are shipped in high quality glass cosmetic jars.

All strong smelling products are individually sealed in stink-proof foil bags.

We know you'll love our products, but if there is a problem with an item in your order we’re happy to offer a refund. To initiate this please contact us on live chat or email to sales@fraterworks.com within 365 days of your order. We will need your name, order number, and reason for the refund request. That's it... simple!

Orders shipped to U.S. locations will usually be delivered within 2 – 5 working days. Shipping to countries outside of the U.S. may take a couple of days more (for Great Britain and nations in Europe it is typically 3 – 6 days). Please get in touch if your order hasn’t been delivered according to the expected timescales, and we will check your order status.

Orders in New Zealand and Australia are often delivered overnight and up to 5 working days. We also accept local pickups at our workshop in Lower Hutt (lower North Island) but please call first.

Yes! While we have same day fulfilment it is often possible for us to add to your order. You can either contact us or you can simply place a second order and use the discount code noship to remove shipping charges. We will see your order and merge them together. If you have received a tracking number from a courier it may still be possible to add items to your order — just contact us and we'll let you know the status.

All of our products include batch codes and expiry or retest dates. In the cosmetics industry raw materials are often sold with a retest date rather than a use by or expiry date because their life span can be considerably extended by use or careful storage.

When you see a retest date on your product it just means that you can give the material an olfactory evaluation (in other words: sniff it) once the date arrives and if the material has not degraded you can add an extra year to its shelf-life. This is standard industry practice.

Powders: perfumers usually work with powders pure. We have a helpful article here which shows you how. If you wish to dilute your powders so you can work with them in a liquid state, each material has its own requirements for successful dilution.

Pastes: pastes can often be used pure — just use a small spatula to transfer the product. However, in many cases gentle heating in a bain marie (water batch) is the best option.

Solids: treat these like pastes. In most cases (but not all) a bain marie will bring the solid to a liquid state.

Grams (and ounces) measure the quantity of a thing by weight; millilitres (mL) measures the quantity of a thing by volume (that is, how much of it fits inside a container of a certain size).

Every material has a different density — perfumer's alcohol is much less dense than water for example. One gram of alcohol takes up 1.24 mL while one gram of water takes up the space of 1 mL.

Another example is Rose Ultimate Extract (LMR), which has a density just under that of water, so 4 grams of Rose Ultimate Extract will give you slight more by volume: approximately 4.2mL. In most cases you can presume that n grams will be slightly more mL.

Here's a handy approximate conversion chart using the density of citral (0.888 g/mL) as a fairly neutral baseline for measuring mL.

Our 15g, 25g and some 50g bottles have a special plastic plug (called an insert seal) in them to prevent any risk of leaks in transit. To remove the plug use a fingernail or small screwdriver to ease it up on one side then remove as normal. You can discard the plug at this stage because the outer lid is deep and has wadding to keep the bottles air-tight.

Our product labels includes country of origin, a batch number and a retest date. Unlike a standard expiry date, the retest date allows you to perform an olfactory evaluation on the material, potentially extending its usable life by an additional year. Labels on our larger products provide even more comprehensive information.
