Muguet 16 was one of the greatest lily of the valley bases. Created by Marius Reboul in 1929 for Givaudan (founded by Léon Givaudan in 1895 at the young age of 20 with his brother Xavier, eight years his senior), Muguet 16 went on to feature in numerous fragrances over the decades, including Mais Oui by Bourjois. So popular was Muguet 16 that it was copied by every fragrance house (right up to Drogco as late as the 1960s in their Muguet Nouveau base).

Muguet 16 is a real delight and despite the limited number of materials available to perfumers in the early 20th century is perhaps a more perfect fit for modern fragrances than most classical Muguet bases.

Reboul constructed this base with a very light hand, using transparent materials over heavier ones, and so, for example, we find Cinnamyl Acetate taking the place of the far heavier Cinnamic Alcohol favoured at the time. Every material is balanced to perfection and the resulting base stands as a testament to the brilliance of this gentleman who is perhaps more famous for his bases than his perfumes.

Long gone from the modern perfumer's palette (and tragically long forgotten by most), we are thrilled to be able to offer our restoration of this timeless masterpiece to our discerning clients.

If you are interested in Marius Reboul's work, we also offer his Amarante base, Sophira (the key to Rigaud's Un Air Embaume from 1914).

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards
