Labdanum resinoid opens with a dark, honeyed sweetness layered over balsamic warmth. An unmistakable ambergris-like richness defines its heart. Beneath that, you find dry leather, aged tobacco, and a faintly animalic depth that makes this material utterly captivating.
This is the material that built the amber accord. Pair it with vanillin and benzoin for the classic combination, or lean into its leathery side alongside oakmoss and patchouli for sophisticated chypres. It excels as a fixative, anchoring volatile top notes and extending the life of your blend.
Use labdanum resinoid to add warmth and body to oriental bases. Try it with bergamot and vetiver for a refined masculine accord. Its dark colour limits use in pale formulations, but that rich resinous character is irreplaceable when you need genuine amber depth.
Labdanum resinoid and labdanum absolute both come from the same crude gum harvested from the rockrose shrub, but they differ in extraction and character. The resinoid is extracted with a hydrocarbon solvent, producing a thick, dark, waxy material with full-bodied earthy depth. The absolute is the alcohol-soluble fraction, cleaner and brighter with a more refined sweetness. Use the resinoid when you want raw depth and body in your base. Choose the absolute when your formula needs clarity and elegance.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
