Over the years we have sampled many Tobacco absolutes, being ever on the lookout for that singular one which encapsulates every wonderful aspect of the plant in its most distinguished forms: snuff, pipes and cigars. This is it.
Upon first sniff of this marvellous absolute one smells antique wood and hay notes. Payan Bertrand's recent harvests have achieved an exceptional level of refinement, surpassing even our former offering. Their latest production attains such quality that one would be forgiven for believing oneself to be smelling a hand of aged tobacco leaves. Following the typical masculine opening is a distinctly honey and dried fruit nuance. Rounding it all out is a sweet vanilla-tonka complex that confirms the versatile role that tobacco extracts play in our art form.
We have made the decision to switch from our previous MANE tobacco absolute to this superior Payan Bertrand product for two compelling reasons: the recent harvests demonstrate notably finer aromatic qualities, and crucially, this absolute carries no IFRA restrictions whatsoever. Unfortunately, changes in MANE's processing methods resulted in their product becoming IFRA prohibited, making it unsuitable for our purposes.
We call this our "Signature" absolute because it is the first tobacco product we turn to in virtually every instance. It is used in a number of our products and we have yet to sample finer.
This product blends exceedingly well with the sticky dried plum note of Firmenich's Prunella, Cocoa Resinoid, Oud Intense, and Vanilla Supreme. For a 1700s Fribourg & Treyer snuff accord of the Bordeaux variety, try it with a trace of fine Bourbon Geranium, Rose Ultimate Extract and the merest suggestion of Egyptian Violet Leaves.
Tobacco "Signature" Absolute from Payan Bertrand is nicotine reduced (to a level that it is usually classified as nicotine free); the total nicotine content is 0.09%. It is not IFRA restricted and, as such, will be limited only by the laws of the country in which it finds its final use in cosmetics.
We offer this complex product from Payan Bertrand at 10% dilution in pure and natural Triethyl Citrate (an odourless isolate from citrus) or pure. In pure form Tobacco Absolute is a very viscous (albeit pourable) liquid.

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
