In the early days of the golden age of perfume (late 19th century to mid 20th century) jasmine oil was extracted by the only means known: enfleurage from animal fat pomade. This involves the repeated laying of thousands of single jasmine blossoms on a bed of highly purified and odourless animal fats (lard and tallow were primarily used). As the old flowers lost their scent, the fat (or pomade as it is known) was recharged with fresh flowers.

Most modern producers of enfleurage products now use palm or other vegetable oils, but in 2015 in collaboration with a producer of traditional enfleurage products, we commissioned a large quantity of classical jasmine enfleurage oil, known in French as “extrait (de pommade aux fleurs), № 36, de jasmin”, produced using the ancient method of extraction via animal fats. We are very excited to be the only company offering this truly remarkable piece of fragrance history for sale.

Our 2% tincture of that Jasmine extract is a work of perfume art. It is like no other jasmine product on the market, bearing many more of the natural facets of genuine jasmine flowers than any other extraction method. There is a magical quality to this product which is not apparent in plant oil based enfleurage.

The alcohol we use in all of our tinctures is purest food grade ethanol produced in New Zealand by a small batch distillery in the foothills of the glacier covered Southern Alps.

The flowers used to create this product are organically farmed and are from the Jasminum officinale variety.

If you use this product — or any extrait (de pommade aux fleurs) — it is essential to chill and filter your finished product to ensure that no excess fats remain to cloud your fragrance.

French Name: Infusion d'extrait (de pommade aux fleurs) de Jasmin.

WARNING: this jasmine tincture may contain traces of lard remaining from the extraction process. We keep this tincture apart from our other offerings and we fill orders containing this in a separate work area specifically designated for it. We do not use this tincture in any of our products.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
