    CAS: 8015-01-8
Variety: Origanum Majorana Classification: Heart Note[i]

Sweet marjoram opens with warm spice — nutmeg and cardamom, not the green herbs you expect. A gentle woody undertone and faint medicinal sweetness sit underneath, but the dominant impression is soft, inviting warmth. It is one of the most underused naturals in fine fragrance.

Use it in fougères to add warm depth between lavender top notes and oakmoss-coumarin bases. It gives colognes an unexpected richness — just enough exotic warmth to lift a simple citrus structure into something considered. A natural companion for nutmeg, bergamot, and clary sage.

Fraterworks also stocks Wild Marjoram Oil (Thymus mastichina), which despite the name is a thyme — eucalyptus-forward, camphoraceous, and bracing. Sweet marjoram shares no common ground with it. They are named the same but smell nothing alike, and are never interchangeable.

    Odour Profile

Sweet Marjoram Oil has a warm, sweet-spicy, herbaceous character reminiscent of nutmeg and cardamom, with a gentle woody undertone and soft medicinal warmth — inviting, complex, and nothing like the eucalyptus-camphor of "wild marjoram."

    Uses

Warm spicy-herbal heart note for fougères, colognes, and oriental compositions.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
