Orris Butter is renowned in perfumery for its luxurious aroma and this Germanica concrete is the finest example of the material. While Orris Pallida is the most common source of iris butter, the Germanica product has nuances it lacks. Germanica iris is creamier, more balanced and a little less powdery.

Obtaining orris butter is a years-long process that involves digging up and curing the rhizomes, followed by a highly specialised distillation. The final product is a solid material with a butterscotch colour that melts to the touch.

Sourced from the top supplier in Grasse, our Orris Germanica Butter is the most perfect quality, surpassing all other online offerings. Additionally, because our supplier is the world leader, a constant supply is assured. This is the gold standard with Chinese origin rhizomes far surpassing the cheaper Moroccan variety in beauty.

NOTE: This product is not molecular distilled to rapidly increase the irones. It is a well aged natural product just as it was in days gone by.

    General Information

Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.

All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.

    IFRA Standards

    Permitted amounts in finished product:

    100%
    IFRA 49: 100%

These are derived from calculated concentrations which do not replace chromatographic quantification on individual lots. Disclaimer...

    For Trade Use Only

Our products are intended as building blocks in the perfume creation process; they are not to be applied to the skin undiluted.

These raw materials are for use by the perfumery trade only.

Thank you for such an interesting review, Nicola. For those wanting a machine translation: 'Iris butter with good irone content that gives a caramelized and earthy character. Initially I was looking for the more renowned pallida variety but this Iris germanica butter exceeded all my expectations by giving a creamy and moist character to one of my fragrances surpassing the Moroccan quality of an old supplier that I had previously purchased. I recommend mixing it with a geosmin base diluted to 0.5% to give a greater earthy note.'
