While most Ylang-ylang extra is from flowers grown in Madagascar, this beautiful Robertet extraction is from Ylang-ylang trees grown on Comoros just as it was when Ernest Beaux created Chanel No 5. It was formerly considered the premiere origin until low harvests and economics nearly shut down the Comoros trade. Thankfully it is now back and running full steam so you can have access to this nearly lost treasure.
In addition to this Robertet product we also offer a beautiful organic version from Biolandes. The chief difference between them is that the Robertet Comoros oil is sweeter and richer with a creamier and more balanced top note and a fruitier and spicer cinnamic dry down. This Robertet Comoros oil is the Fraterworks default Ylang-ylang and we use it in all of our products.
In ylang-ylang production terms, the “superior” oil is taken during the first few minutes of steam distilled extraction, giving the fruitiest and most ethereal top notes. Following that is this more balanced (and most beautiful representation of the flower in nature) “extra” grade which can comprise up to 40 or 50% of the total remaining oil. The functional remnants are sold as grade I, grade II and grade III or taken on the whole as “complete” oil. Of those remnants, only complete and grade III are of value to modern perfumers with grade III being a cheap oil for soaps and “complete oil” being useful as a general mid-range ylang ylang which blends very well with most other florals.
If you are looking for a synthetic replacer for ylang-ylang oil that can be used at much higher quantities, you may prefer our wonderfully realistic Ylang Impérial base.

General Information
General Information
Like most suppliers and makers of quality raw materials for fragrances, we do not filter many of our products. This ensures that no odiferous matter is lost prior to use but can result in the appearance of small particles or slight clouding.
All alcoholic fragrances should be macerated for up to a month and then chilled in a moderate freezer overnight before being filtered fine. This will remove all cloudiness or detritus and is the industry norm.
